Fighter class, succession quest failed, no loot table

Okay so this is not YA and nobody handed me a map with cute icons. It still played. Joab is the party fighter who does the kills the paladin king will not put on his sheet. Abishai and Asahel are the brothers. The oak with Absalom is a set-piece I would actually run, except my table would argue for three hours about whether you kill the prince.
The campaign fails at succession. He backs Adonijah. Solomon’s man comes. Altar horns, asylum rules, they do not proc. That is a brutal session-zero promise kept: the kingdom required him and the next reign spends him.
Would I steal it for D&D
Yes, the tree, the rebuke of the grieving king, the altar. No, I would not steal a romance subplot because there isn’t one. Rules-without-play is not the problem here; play-without-mercy is. If you only want dragons, go to Stone Tower Lodge. If you want a human fighter who never gets the speech at the feast, this is the module.
KU, finished in a weekend between classes. Dense in the middle (war years). I did not DNF. I am not automatically slotting all thirteen Unsung books. I am slotting the ones with a clear dungeon: city falls, queen, tunnel, etc. Joab was the tutorial boss and he was not a tutorial.
Loot I actually kept
From The King’s Sword I kept: brothers as starting party, the oak as a no-win encounter, the rebuke as social combat, the altar as a failed sanctuary rule. I did not keep a magic sword. The title is a job title.
If your table wants dragons, wait for Stone Tower Lodge on this desk. If your table wants a fighter who never gets the feast speech, Joab is the module. I finished it on KU. I am not auto-completing thirteen books because a series page exists. Book One earned a slot.
Would I recommend The King’s Sword to the campus Discord? Only with a warning: not YA, not loot, not a chosen-one arc. Joab is the fighter who keeps the king’s sheet clean. If that sounds like a session you want, borrow it. If you wanted a dragon, you are in the wrong dungeon.
